NSW: Opposition calls for review of child abuse response by DoCS
The New South Wales Opposition has renewed calls for a review of child protection services, saying nine out of 10 reports of child abuse are being ignored.
The opposition says 21 children died last year despite being reported to the Departmentof Community Services.
Opposition spokesman BRAD HAZZARD says a lack of resources at many DOCS offices meansonly one in 10 calls about suspected child abuse is being investigated.
Community Services Minister FAYE LO PO' disputes the opposition's figures and saysall calls received by the department are followed up.
She says 90 per cent of calls are about matters not related to abuse and that's whythe children involved aren't visited.
